The 86th International Session of the EYP in Tbilisi, (11-19 November 2017), will be remembered by its inspiring guests as well as its high quality academic outcomes.
Under the theme “Linking Peace, Stability and Advancement: Preventing International Conflicts” the participants discussed over fifteen various issues focusing on sustainable peace, conflict prevention and the position of the European Union as a stabilising force and peace-builder both within and beyond the borders of Europe.
The Session was opened by Dr Heike Peitze, the German Ambassador to Georgia and Janos Herman, the European Ambassador to Georgia, who both emphasized the significance of Georgia’s European orientated choice and shared their thoughts about peace and stability advancement in the region. The participants had the opportunity to engage with them in a panel discussion, an academic event organised by the Naumann Foundation which was opened by Anna Dolidze (Parliamentary Secretary of the President of Georgia). The openness of the Georgian and foreign officials, their willingness to provide input on the current Europeans issues as well as accompanying young European in their reflection on the European project was exceptional.
Thanks to the speakers’ active participation, some of the fifteen committees received expertise and had the chance to review their resolutions on the topics of on-going conflicts in countries ranging from Eastern Europe, to Turkey and Yemen and developed concrete suggestions for the EU and the international community to undertake. Last, but not least, the participants had the honor of meeting the President of Georgia, Mr Giorgi Margvelashvili, at the Presidential palace and listened to his remarks about current state of affairs of the country, as well as engage with Mr Margvelashvili in a Q&A session.
